Follow up - a month or two ago, I found that the relay for the blower (under the dash, driver's side,) had become hot enough to melt some plastic at one point, (probably right before the blower quit,) and plastic had blocked the connection. A bit of sand paper cleaned that up for now after I found out the replacement was over $40.

Forget e-bay or aftermarket for critical timing parts. Find a place that offers a DSM discount for factory parts like steering shaft upper bearing spring kit. A lot of people have had good luck with JNZ Tuning.

Just to replace it dude.. Isuzu parts nowadays are not that expensive but it will still depend on the quality and brand of the parts.

I'm thinking the vibration isn't normal have you contacted the supplier to see if maybe you got a bad unit?

    Nice write up!

From what I understand, the conventional wisdom with the plastic on the Miata radiators is that it goes from black to brown to greenish-brown. Once all of the black is gone, you are lucky to be able to change hoses without a catastrophic failure. Being paranoid, the slightest hint of brown triggered action on my part. To be fair, there is a post on the pointy board stating that the aluminum and plastic radiators have similar failure rates. On the other hand, I have had to turn off the A/C when traffic was rough on 635 to keep from overheating; I hope the new radiator eliminates that necessity.

Edit: I hope your timing belt change went well.

Good write up. I just replaced my rad while I was doing the timing belt change. The stupid epoxy on the mounts had broken loose on one side. I ordered a replacement though rock auto though it had the plastic tanks on it and it dropped right in. So far the only time the plastic rads have failed me was after putting my saturn through a ditch one of the rad brackets bent and it snapped a corner off the radiator dumping all of my coolant.

Not sure if those were Alum. or Steel wheels but aluminum rims tend to break or as you saw crack when trying to bend them back into shape.

I feel your pain. I hit a pothole at Skillman & LBJ and bent TWO Konig wheels. Luckily they still hold air.
