BS 188 PoseWow... that was a lot of fun. Exhausting and at times frustrating, but fun nonetheless.

First, my hat is off to General Default for winning C stock at the Tour. The General showed us how he earned that handle, putting the troops at attention from the beginning with a blistering run on Saturday. Although he didn't have the fastest run on Sunday, he was still quick enough to hold on to the top spot for the weekend. Way to go, General!

Team Cheap Bastard had a solid finish, with tailchaser in 9th and me in 8th overall out of 18 drivers when the dust settled on Sunday. Just slightly out of the trophies, but at least we both managed to improve a position from our Saturday standings. It's amazing what you can do when you get more than one run... Whazat?  Read on to find out.

SCCA Tour - Houston Practice Day Print E-mail

A brisk Friday morning drive brought us in to Houston about 10:15. We walked the practice course, changed tires and hit the track… at least as hard as a worn out set of Ecsta V700s would let us.

I am quite pleased with the way altiain’s car handles. I wound up about a tenth of a second behind him during the practice runs. We were 1.5 seconds behind the fast guys during practice, but we’ve got less wear on the good tires.

I’ll apologize in advance, but the pictures I took today were prior to placement of the official dfwmiata.com/Team CB emblems… I’ll try to get some in the morning before the car gets too dirty.

Cheers!

CSR or CRS?As the Miata pilots filtered in to McDonald’s Sunday morning, dark clouds loomed in all directions. Amazingly, even Cheesecake—err, Kestrel—braved the weather. With breakfast finished, we all headed out to the Mineralring, noticing as we went, that the skies were getting clearer!

First car on course occurred around 11:00 a.m. First rain drop on course-worker occurred around 11:30, along with a chilly wind. But, the course never got wet, no one froze to death, and sunshine wasn’t far away! By the time the second heat started, the sun had been out, warmed the course and things were looking great! Then, about midway through the heat, the Hernandez’ B-Mod car let some parts out through a new hole in the block. Clean-up took up a half hour or so and let everyone’s tires cool off. Second runs looked a lot like first runs.

The “tough competition” autocross season got off to a start this year. No, that’s not a typo… There’s just no polite adjective I can come up with to describe what kind of start it was.

There were definitely some teething pains in the registration and timing & scoring departments. However, apart from one critical e-mail I received regarding worker assignments, it looked like the assigned class run heats worked pretty well. Even with my all day work assignment as worker chief, it was nice to have plenty of time to relax and watch cars run the course.
