The “tough competition” autocross season got off to a start this year. No, that’s not a typo… There’s just no polite adjective I can come up with to describe what kind of start it was.

There were definitely some teething pains in the registration and timing & scoring departments. However, apart from one critical e-mail I received regarding worker assignments, it looked like the assigned class run heats worked pretty well. Even with my all day work assignment as worker chief, it was nice to have plenty of time to relax and watch cars run the course.

The POS Racer hurtles around a corner during the Saturday test & tune. So how much was it rolling over before the bigger front swaybar? Photo courtesy general default.
So how did our folks do? In C Stock, Miatas accounted for all 6 entries, with altiain taking top honors by a few hundredths of a second.  The POS Racer claimed a spot in E Stock. Two non-members (at least so far) claimed the top two spots in DSP. Five Miatas ran in street-tire class, claiming one trophy spot. Four miatas ran for novice honors, with none taking trophies, but all showing promise. That’s a total of 18 Miata pilots from a field of 199 entrants, for the mathematically challenged—under 10%. I know we can do better than that next time...

Altiain continues to extoll the virtues of the new V710 Kumhos, and they must be good for something, as John Baker took second in C Stock ahead of the ever-fast Jon Wagner. Separation from 1st to 3rd in C Stock was 0.434 seconds.

Honorable mention goes to rx7gslse who won CSP with a busted motor… Also to Clovis for a win in SM2, even if his time was slower than stantaur who only managed second in B Stock.

Full results have been posted on the Texas Region SCCA web site.
