The sea was angry that day my friends....(oops, wrong story). The Miatae all gathered in their usual section of Pennington's parking area and got ready for the day. Installing racing rubber, adjusting shocks, tweaking air pressures....the usual activities before an event. With 'our' number reaching 20 pilots out of 176 total entries, there were more than a few Miatae that none us had seen before. (That's a good thing!)
sammm pedals as fast as he can to get away from McDonald's | The day started overcast with the wind blowing hard enough that you would have thought you were at the Mineral Ring in February! The registration process ran much smoother (and faster) than the first event, as did Tech. There was no standing around for what seemed like hours on end in a non-moving line! The first of five heats began at 10am as scheduled and everyone got in their 4 runs in this time.
The wind finally died down a bit late in the day and the sun started peeking out thru the clouds. After all 5 heats were said and done, Jon W. took 1st place in C-Stock with a smokin' 35.054! Our very own Kestrel and tailchaser finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. POS felt the horns of the Old Bull and his co-driver in E-Stock for a hard fought 3rd place finish. Mark52 took 1st place in C-Stock Prepared blowing away his competition by over 12 seconds! But what was that in the trunk?
onething hurtles through a corner | Team Cheap Bastard and sammm squeaked out a 4th place trophy finish, turning the fastest time of Miata's running on street tires. We witnessed the first appearance of member rx7gslse's new '04 Mazdaspeed MX-5 (no Miata badges on it) running in B-Stock. <Homer Simpson> mmmmmmmmm...turbo. </Homer Simpson>.
All in all, it was a very good day for our local pilots! We will be moving on to Mineral Wells for Equipe Rapide Challenge Cup #3 on May 2nd! Stay tuned. |
