An unsual show of cone carnage by the ever cool-headed altiain in his '99 Sport MiataThe weather is really shining on us for the 2004 autocross season. We've seen more "perfect" days already this year than we saw during the entire 2003 season. Last year went from cold to hot with little in between (and a bit of wet thrown in). These 80 degree breezy days make hanging out in parking lots a lot of fun!

In what we all hope is a new trend, the event started on time. 210 entrants completed 840 runs before 4:30. If the average run was 72 seconds, we squoze 17 car-hours in. And that's after a substantial break during the 5th heat when the computer apparently became fed up with the whole deal and spat out 120 runs in disgust. Please be patient with the Timing & Scoring Chief who will now have to manually enter those runs from the paper record in addition to normal audit duties.

But on to what you really wanted to know... leadfootjon smoked us all again. Those Hoosier-Daddy race tires are really working out for him. He held out a two second advantage over General Default's finish. Another half second back found Kestrel, in a hard fought win over altiain, johnbaker, and tailchaser, all separated by less than 3 tenths of a second.

The tire class battle also ran hot to the very end. Due to some computer issues, results were not available at the end of the day, but our calculators give the win to sammm, followed closely by onething.

Did POS Racing put another scare into the Burns' camp? Well, no... since they were too afraid to show up after the last ER event. The Old Bull laid down the smack down, though, but POS did keep on pace with the bulk of the C Stock crowd. However, we're not sure if that's good for him or bad for C Stock...

mark52 won CSP handily. We hope. More importantly, he beat altiain's raw time.

lost 216 campaigned again in STS2, but his biggest victory today resulted no doubt from putting an ear to ear grin on his grand-daughter's face as our region witnessed the first run of an STS2L car. If these class names get any longer, we'll have to put extender panels on the Miatas to fit the letters on.

The Miata is becoming a more popular car in the novice class. We'll have to wait for the full results to get an accurate count, but there were at least 7 Miatas running in novice.

It's sure been great seeing all the new faces driving our favorite car at recent events. From talking to folks, it sounds like they've definitely been bitten by the bug. However, we're all wondering where panamericano has wandered off to... Is he building a rally car in his bat cave? Has he been trapped on a Dart bus? Will we ever quit laughing about the wheel bearing that got away? Stay tuned for the next time the MME crowd hits the pylons.

Our next big event is the second (and unfortunately sold out) installment of the North Texas S2000 Owner's Club autocross season next Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! OK... so there's a Lone Star BMW Owner's Club autocross on Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, but we're barely up to two Miatas signed up. Come join the party!

tailchaser pedals for all he's worth to scramble up the ladder, but winds up in 6th. It's going to be a hard battle in the C Stock game this year.
