Ahhh... Our dear friend, Pennington Field, greets us again. I think we were all surprised to see General "Won't be at Pennington any more" Default pull up, but we were glad too see him give the newly named lugnutjon a run for his money.
We also had a bit of fun playing with 3bean's new bling -- a quick-release steering wheel -- that we were all jealous of. After baking in the sun a few weeks ago, all we needed today was a bit more breeze to cool things off. Turnout was light for this Equipe Rapide event, but we Miata pilots certainly showed up in force -- I count at least 14 in the photos
lugnutjon taunts, "I can beat you with 3 wheels, you wussies!" |
My day was fair, but I let the cord out of one my Victoracers, which bummed me out for the rest of the day. The POS Racer finished third, but as is customary, I pulled out two sub-40 second runs with the R on the doors -- probably good for second behind the Old Bull and Mr. Burns. Time will tell. All of the C Stock kids were chasing lugnutjon. Why lugnut? Well... Let me share. By our count, he's stipped and/or broken at least three lugs so far this season. The General was hot on his heels followed by Kestrel, Altiain, JohnBaker, and Mike Watson. lugnutjon pulls off another one |
Tailchaser held off sammm in Tire Class -- an all Miata field, oddly. If onething hadn't been off restoring power to the Metroplex, it would have been a four Miata field. Here comes the bling... Maybe we should call him threeblingschnell |
lost216 brought home the trophy in STS2. We're going to have to scare up some more competition for him. Mark52 squeaked out another one, but Mike Steinbach's newly refreshed Datsun roadster will be back to fight another day. Looks like "Nothing in the Trunk" doesn't have anything under the steering wheel, either... |
The MME crowd was pretty big for this event. At the least we saw Tailchaser, POS, sammm, altiain, Kestrel, Mark52, General Default, gabkwong, johnbaker, 3bean w/ ranch dressing, redbullforbreakfast, lost216 and mokey. We also saw a few spectators show up including JohnSilverNB, and Dave with his wife in the white & tan '01. The crew of Team Cheap Bastard enjoys some much needed shade |
Amazingly, we were packed up with trophies in hand by 4:00. It was a great day, and we look forward to seeing you at Equipe Rapide Challenge Cup #5! Now... before you say your car can't handle an autocross... |
