Tailchaser's Emerald '02 Miata - TCS 42We surived another one, it seems. The sun definitely ran up to full broil as we made our attack on a tight, tricky course - so tight and tricky it seems, that the course designer took ill and had to sit this one out. It was definitely a love it or hate it course. Those that ran fast loved it, those that didn't...

The Miata count for this event was 16 - not quite enough to break the magic 20% mark for total entries. We had ambassadors to C & E stock, CSP, STS2, SM2 and Street Tire, claiming first in C Stock, STS2 and Street Tire classes. As Kestrel pointed out, that means Miatas only won where they were the only marque in class.

In C Stock, lugnutjon pulled off by a wide margin, claiming the class over altiain by 1.2 seconds with a 38.990. Kestrel had a grip on second, but was trumped by .006 seconds on altiain's last run.

E Stock proved to be a fierce battleground as the evil Mr. Burns posted a time that would have been a solid second place in C Stock. POS Racing pulled up the rear behind the Old Bull and the not-so-evil Mrs. Burns.

CSP competition in the area has been kicked up a notch by Mike Steinbach in his '68 Datsun 2000. mark52 may need to paint his steed yellow (or put something in the trunk) as he trailed by six tenths.

turboduane took on the big kids in SM2, but only managed a distant 3rd during regulation play. However, he posted a 40.3xx during fun runs - knocking on the door of the 2nd place SM2 finisher. We're all interested to see whether he picks up some race tires or moves over to tire class to turn up the heat.

STS2 was an all Miata show once again with long-absent Brock claiming the top spot with a 42.659. 2nd and 3rd went to lost216 and treibenschnell, with each successive spot running seven tenths slower. It looks like brock may give these new guys a little more incentive to go faster.

Tire class was another all Miata parade with tailchaser continuing to beat up on the other kids, posting a 41.166 raw time. onething followed with a 42.438. sammm did his best to square up his tires, but only managed a 44.319. Newcomer pigpen finished out the class on a 44.900 - not bad at all for a newbie.

So how did our favorite convertible fare in the Rapide Pax? Unfortunately, our golden boy lugnutjon ran .3 seconds slower during the Rapide Pax. That was just enough to drop him to 14th spot and keep him out of the money. Kestrel managed a top 20 finish amidst some fast company. In the "also ran" file, tailchaser was rather puzzled about making his fastest run of the day on a re-run with HOT Azenises, a passenger and the a/c on.

All in all, a great event. Not long until the next one... Drink lots of fluids and stock up on Gatorade, since it's off to Mineral Wells on July 17th for the 3rd installment in the North Texas S2000 Owner's Club Autocross Series.
