As the Miata pilots filtered in to McDonald’s Sunday morning, dark clouds loomed in all directions. Amazingly, even Cheesecake—err, Kestrel—braved the weather. With breakfast finished, we all headed out to the Mineralring, noticing as we went, that the skies were getting clearer!
First car on course occurred around 11:00 a.m. First rain drop on course-worker occurred around 11:30, along with a chilly wind. But, the course never got wet, no one froze to death, and sunshine wasn’t far away! By the time the second heat started, the sun had been out, warmed the course and things were looking great! Then, about midway through the heat, the Hernandez’ B-Mod car let some parts out through a new hole in the block. Clean-up took up a half hour or so and let everyone’s tires cool off. Second runs looked a lot like first runs.

stolen the POS Racer. Oh the indignity. Photo courtesy POS
Racing. | The rest of the day ran
smoothly. Jim Harris was repeatedly heard saying “Kenny’s back.” And the
scoreboard indicated he was right. Our own General Default posted a
blistering 67.8xx, setting a high mark for a stock-class car. Fastest fendered
car of the day probably went to the shiny new silver BMW—Mr. Harris apparetly
taught him too well. John Baker chimed in not far behind with a 68.3xx.
And JRW followed with a 69.xxx. Not quite as close as last week’s .4
second spacing from 1-3 in C Stock, but close, and on a much longer course.
I always figured Cheesecake would melt
in the sun… Maybe that explains the hat. Photo courtesy POS
Racing. | We were pleased to have out of
town Miata visitors—especially since our local pilots were faster! Thanks again
to gibson99 and ChrisW for driving up. We hope you enjoyed the
show. I wonder if we’ll see a set of V710s on Chris’ car in Houston next
weekend...
Mark52 drove a largely uncontested battle in CSP after an unfamiliar
ITA-prepped Honda CRX failed to threaten. In E Stock, the POS Racing
effort was thwarted once again by the Old Bull. To make matters worse,
the Old Bull only had 2nd gear due to a broken linkage (maybe he
should see a doctor about that)… Tailchaser defected to tire class,
barely edging 2nd in front of sammm, and falling over 2 seconds shy of a
1st place finish over Gary Kramar’s temporary ride—sad to say that that
“favorable” D Stock PAX was the least of our worries...
Although a winner of the coveted Holly’s Miata award hasn’t yet been decided
following this event, a nomination has been made to provide a special award to
Leslie Hollinsworth. As we were working the course during the first heat—which
was quite windy—we heard over the radio “Get out of the wind, and try
again!” That’s gotta be good for something...
Tailchaser speeds through the finish… Too bad he was so slow everywhere else… Photo courtesy POS Racing.
