Miata OutpostWhat a day! With as many as 27 cars and 43 folks, we spent the morning drooling over cars, driving the twisties to Muenster and socializing. It was great having the folks from the North Texas S2000 Owners Club join in, and we hope we’ll see more of them in the future – I just hope they also look forward to seeing more of us! Many thanks to Kestrel for making the great name tags that helped us all be a little less embarrassed about forgetting names…

We started out in Farmers Branch at the Unique Performance car show hosted at the North Texas Shelby Continuation Facility. There, we enjoyed an incredible display of new and old cars and an open house tour of the facility where they’re doing great things with classic Mustangs.

We left the show around 11:30 and headed through the traffic nightmare that is Grapevine, snaking our way northwest toward Justin. We lucked out and missed the race traffic, but the pumpkin patch crowd had us sitting around counting cows for a while.

Once we got through Justin, the road opened up. The sun shined a little brighter. The sky turned a little bluer. Curves and crests beckoned us onward.

Just outside of Forestburg, we all had a great laugh as one of our members and his walnut bladder took care of business. Needless to say, 40 of his closest friends felt compelled to honk their horns and rev their engines during the ordeal. What a proud moment! It looks like next time we make this run, we'll need to arrange for a potty break somewhere along the way between the Metromess and Muenster.

The route we took showcases some incredible stretches of countryside and some roads that make you wonder why they were built. It's incredible to drive just a few hours from the city and traverse 20 miles of road without seeing another car.

The man himself!
We even got to see the man! This guy really knows his stuff.

We rolled in to the Center restaurant in Muenster just after 1:00. Even though we were an hour late, they were ready for us. We had drinks in no time, and everyone found something on their varied menu. It was great having a room to ourselves where we could wander around and chat. And it was great food!

Sadly, we were duped into going to Fischer’s Market. This must be the running gag amongst north Texas auto clubs, as everyone recommends stopping here. I’m letting the secret out. It’s a grocery store. Take up every space on Main Street with your cars if you want, but don’t expect much from the market…

A number of folks departed Muenster in search of other commitments, a nap or autographs back at the car show. The rest of us made our way across some more great two-lane to Clark’s Outpost where clovis finally got to pick up some brisket. We’re sure the whole pound made it home…

The folks at Clark’s reminded us once again why they’re such a popular destination for car clubs. We spent a few minutes talking outside before we went in, but by the time we did, they’d set up a table for us. They really take care of groups. But, alas, our orders were all “to go.”

From Clark’s we said our goodbyes as the west side crew headed south on 377 and the Collin County folks headed east on FM 121.

It was great seeing everyone that came out, and I look forward to seeing everyone again the next time we’re out. Until then!
