I was reading on the ::Batman:: about brake pads in the AX section. There's a recent thread about using OEM's in front and Hawk HP+ in the rear. Since I'm due for pads, I decided to take one for the team and will be a guineau pig. Results to follow.

Did you clear this with Miatamoto first! :scared:
I have the HP+ on all four corners of the Escort, and love them. I think they would be to aggressive for me in the front of my Miata. I have a tendency to lock the right front with the OEM pads.
I will be very interested to see your results with the HP+ in the rear and OEM in the front.
I think it's a personal preference. I loved the high friction (grabby) HP+s on my Miata, but I'm in the minority. Hollis seems to really like the setup you're thinking about trying.
Parts are in. Installation after work today. :burnrubr:
I have HP+ on the front and whatever on the rear, works great for me but I have ABS. I actually took them out since they dust and squeel so bad and the stock/generic pads work fine for me on the street.
I was shocked by how bad the brakes are without ABS after driving apex2apex's car at MW.
So, how did it go? Where you able to get out of work early enough?
All pads have been replaced with the Hawk HP+'s in the rear. Didn't get a chance to bed them in yet.
Here's the procedure recommended by Hawk:
- After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 30-35 mph applying moderate pressure.
- Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph.
- DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!
- Allow 15 minutes for brake system to cool down.
- After step 4 your new pads are ready for use.
Well, sammm, how did the new pad set up work at Evolution Phase 1?
I think I will be trying this ASAP, I corded two right front tires (with the help of my instructor) this week end.
I was happy with how they worked out. The Hawk's definitely work better once they are warm/hot. I was dragging the parking brake a bit going up to the start line to get some heat in them.
I was much more agressive than usual on the brakes at times and think I only locked the front up once.
Good to know, sammm. I had planned to do something similar using HP+ rears and HPS fronts; sounds like I may not need to change the fronts.
I ordered the HP+ for the rear, but they are on back order.
The pads arrived yesterday. Today, I installed the new pads and new rotors. Then, I went out on a Farm to Market road and bedded them in. I'm set now with the "ABS for stupid feet" mod. I hope it works for me.
