Got a high mileage shifter?

Yes, we all know about changing out the round, plastic bushing at the base of the shifter assembly. It's a normal thing, right?

Well, don't go neglecting the rectangular one on the side of the fulcrum ball while you're in there. I've had the stock shifter from my '90 sitting on the desk waiting for attention for a little while and finally got around to taking care of upkeep on it.

Take a peek at new vs. 198k on the side bushing:

Just a little food for thought for those of us with big numbers on the odometer. :drive:

One's yellow the other is white?

Funny, on both my 99 I don't see the "the rectangular one on the side of the fulcrum ball"! Have they changed the design over the years?

It's not installed at the moment. I'm saving that for tomorrow. ;) Not sure that I'll really feel any difference compared to the old bushings, as I've been using a Fuji Racing short-throw unit for the past few months.

Aside from the discolouration, please note the wear to the original bushing caused by what I'll call the "locating pin" that's inside the turret.

Having never seen the shift assembly in an NB car, I can only go by what I've read. There are two locating pins for the NB shifter. How they sit in relation to and act upon the shift fulcrum I do not know.

how much was that one? do you have a part number? i never thought of that one....

Had I known about all those little plastic bits, I would've replaced them all when I did my boots... oh well, sounds like another little driveway project.
