Well, it happened... my faithful DD has a problem. Recently I noticed the Teg (a 95 base model LS) had started using some oil. As in I forgot to check it for a while and it was really low ::Censor::
Anyway, I added some and have been checking it regularly. Last time I checked it was a few days ago; this week I've done a LOT of driving all over the Metromess for work, and yesterday I forgot to check the level before I left for Lubbock.
I made a near-700 mile trip yesterday for 20 minutes of actual work, doing a maintenance inspection at a Just Brakes shop. Sheesh.
Anyway, on the way back I stopped by one of the wind farms to see if they really make the noise like they do in the movies (they do). When I pulled off the freeway and stopped, I was tilted sideways and the oil light came on. I slapped myself.
I checked it and it wasn't on the stick.
I cautiously made it to a parts store a mile or so down the road (thank God it was there) and picked up 3 quarts, just to be safe.
1 quart. Check. No oil on the stick.
Oopsy.
2 quarts. Juuuust on the tip.
Finally got it back to normal halfway through the 3rd quart.
This is a recent development. I haven't done anything enginewise to the car recently except changing plugs, wires, and distributor cap. I did notice the muffler tip is blacker than normal...? The car is running perfectly otherwise.
The Maintenance light just came on, too.
Any ideas what I need to check first? I hate diagnosing :(
