Hrmm, may have to see if I can snag a heavily set of discounted AD-08's from my contact at Yoko
the link won't download the catalog for me
hangs up
tried the TR website and same thing
will the Yoko be available in some 15" sizes?
if so, which ones ?
can you cut and paste this into your browser? http://www.tirerack.com/images/pdf/ITspring09.pdf
The info is very general - just descriptions.
"Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 tires feature black letter styling and are available
in selected 55-, 50-, 45-, 40-, 35- and 30-series V- and W-speed ratedsizes for 15" through 19" wheel diameters. UTQG: 180 AA A"

They sound too good to be true.
I called Tire Rack and asked when AD08 would be available to buy, how much, etc
the guy I talked to (not some honcho, just the guy on the phone) didn't know anything about them, but after I insisted he look in their spring catalog to see that TR was indeed advertising them, he went and asked someone
the answer he got was that the shipping container is en route and they will have them for sale in late May
if true, they will not be eligible for SCCA autocross use
must be readily available prior to April 30
No offense Neal, and you know this, but just because the TireRack receives them in May, doesn't mean that the tires weren't available somewhere else before then. Yokohama knows the SCCA cutoff date and I expect the tires will be "available" before the cutoff from some source.
That's if the minion at tTR was even accurate. I've had very bad info from most of my dealings with them. Talk to Yokohama directly.
Released in second quarter of 2009 according to Yokohama's press release.
Jason
you are correct that one source isn't definitive
interesting that the Yoko site yesterday didn't even mention the AD08, unless their search function missed it
SCCA will have to figure out whether the April 30 date is met or not
I emailed them and asked them to be aware and to officially decide and to announce it right after the deadline
my interest is in seeing if the Yoko is a contender in the ST tire wars
to see just how many brands we need to consider
if they miss April 30, it makes things simpler
tire companies have missed before, and IMHO have played games before to make it
we'll see in this case
That's what I expect to see. Ten sets of tires air-freighted to the distributor in Fullerton in late April, then "available" from a couple select dealers. That's by-the-book legal even if it breaks the spirit of the rule.
Either way, I'm looking forward to it as a tire for my street car. The competition car runs on Hoosiers.
Looks like those AD08's are going to be well over 200 bucks a tire for Miata sizes. Isn't that kinda high for street tires??
Hrmm, maybe I can see if I can snag a set from my contact at Yoko. Been pretty happy with the Star Specs once I scrubbed them in though.
