I have a 1991 Miata and the previous owner doesn't know if they converted the A/C to R134a. Can anyone recommend a shop in Arlington that will (cheaply) recover any R12 in the system? Also, any recommendations for a conversion kit? Thanks!

Any A/C shop should be able to recover R12,a nd you can tell if its been converted by the size of the in/out fittings. Stop at any AutoZone and they should be able to glance at it and tell right away.
On my previous car (in 2001), the A/C shop (in Burleson) removed the R-12 for free, provided they kept the R-12 for free. Given the cost of R-12, it shouldn't be hard to find a similar deal if your R-12 is pure. If it isn't pure, I would probably end up doing something politically incorrect.
The lady who owned it previously worked for a mechanic and I was afraid they might have "borrowed" the conversion fittings from another car and the "returned" them - the 2 for 1 conversion. :)
I'll check with the shop around the corner - thanks for the feedback.
