I was hoping one of you guys with a repair manual could look up what the free spring length minimum is for the front and rear suspension.
I have always heard it was in the manual but I have never seen it published or quoted. What are the magic numbers?
I did find JRW's post on the :batman: board for 2001 Hard S springs.
In this case Brian refers to.Quote:

Front - 310.5 mm
Rear - 328.5 mm

we see spring lengths vary up to just over .25"
alot of guys running SSB will buy 3 or 4 sets of springs to get the set up they like the most, since they are supposed to use only OE stuff
General,
I have a service manual for my car and I could not find the lengths in the manual either.
I thought someone posted the free lengths for the '99s and '00s in that same post.
I'll have to look, I do have a Miata spring thread bookmarked.
I do know that front springs just above the minimum and the club sport Bilsteins give me about a 12.625 inch dimension from wheel center to fender lip.
Thanks for the info about the spring variances. That is what I really wanted to know. If I was to buy 4 sets of springs my luck they would all be longer than the ones I have. :PQuote:

But it would still be nice to know what that length is in case you were looking at a used set of springs. It would be good to know that they had not gone below the minimum before you installed them.
Since the SSB guys know there is a variance of .25 inches I guess they know what the minimum length is.
JRW thanks for the ride height numbers. Seems like mine was 13. I will have to go check again.
Sounds like the General is considering some changes this off season as well. :wink:
I looked at the info I had bookmarked and it was ride height info.
