Is it possible to start up your own operation or act as an independent contractor? These days I seem to be getting more calls from companies offering to do collections due to the current economy.

I am officially separated from my company on April 23rd. I know what you are going through. Good luck on the search!! I hope you find something quicker than I am.
My official seperation date is 4-15-09. I have lots of PTO (maxed out at 144 hours) and 2 months of severance (which is pretty crappy considering I was employed there for almost 8 years).
What REALLY pisses me off is that I saved the company $47K on a foreign exchange trade on Wednesday by locking in the rate at the right time (I also was responsible for the treasury and facilities functions).
