I've got two old HP Pavilion desktop computers, circa '99-'00. Both currently have Windows Millennium installed. I'd like to get both wiped and get rid of them. What is the best way to go about this?

Take out the harddrives, smash them to bits with a hammer (kinda fun and you get some cool magnets), put them in a bag and put them back in the case. Take them to a local recycler or call your city for their schedule to drop off hazardous materials/recycling materials. Or Google: computer disposal "your city" texas ( I would do "let me google that for you" but I'm lazy) ;)

Donate PC.
DBAN works well, If you donate them they should have an OS installed.
BTW:
Plasma Torches are the most effective method I have found for destroying drives and is much faster than using a hammer.
A welder will work in a pinch but it takes too long.
An Oxy-Acetylene Torch torch could be very effective but I have not tried one yet.
12 guage slugs or 00 buck work well, but it makes it hard to find all the bits afterward.
High powered rifles do a good job and lets you work on your marksmanship.
Pistol rounds rarely actually penetrate the case and are not a good choice.
Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex downtown Arlington accepts computers running or not and refurbishes them for the foriegn and domestic Mission fields.
Or another option is to delegate it to the garage so you can surf the inter-web while in the middle of a project.
See my CPU it on the workbench on MME I believe. ;)
