I will be taking the M3 to O'fest at Road Atlanta. I am instructing for 2 days and running an AX for one day. I am trying to decide on a tire I can use for 2 track days and be competitive in AX. In BMWCCA I can run r-comps as I have max out the points for the class.
Candidates in order of $$:
Nitto NT01
BFG R1
Hooiser R6
V710
I think Mk2mr2 was pretty happy with his NT01's at the last autocross.
V710... the M3 is heavy.
Will a V710 make it through 8, 20 min sessions and an autocross on a 3,300 lbs M3 without cording?Quote:

BFG R1s. I can only speak to the track days. The tire holds up very well on the track and people are getting pretty good longevity out of them.

The one time I autocrossed on R1s I wished I had been on street tires.
The new Dunlop Direzza Star Specs have good reviews at Tire Rack and are grippy right out of the gate so might be good for AX.

They are fine on the road course, but I think that the NT-05's are crisper (if you wanted to go the street tire route).
If a set of sticker V710's can't last 8 sessions + 2 autocrosses then the driver is doing the WRONG thing. Heck, find some RA-1's. It takes a heavy hand to cord those bastards (I keep trying though, I've only corded one so far). They kind of suck for autocross.
So what did you decide on Ken and how did it go in Atlanta?

For street tire the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs is a great tire. Works better in the wet than the Kumho XS. Also seem to heat cycle well. I drove from Dallas to Atlanta to New Orleans and back to Dallas on them. I drive on them to every event and they still stick.

Where did you buy the NT01's and did you have them shaved? I think I may try those on my stock rims for track days. The Star Specs will likely be my next set of daily drivers unless Yokohoma AD08s suddenly get cheap and pigs fly.
