A/C Problems
On my 91 I've got some problems with my A/C system. For some reason when the A/C runs it'll run good and cool for about 5 mins then cycle off for about the same amount of time.
As the car gets hotter or as the day gets hotter it will stay on for a smaller amount of time then cycle off for another few mins. Then kick back on again.
This is the only thing really keeping the car from being a good daily driver.
Anyone have any advice?

Is the aux fan comes on when the a/c is on? What is your temp gauge says? I wonder the cooling system is not working properly.

The compressor will cycle in normal operation.
One point you didn't make was if you were getting cold air out of the vents

I get cool when the compressor is engaged. I haven't been having any cooling system problems at all car stays at normal temperature at all times.
I know that the compressor cycling on and off is normal but being on for a few mins and then off for 5 or more isn't normal. By the time the A/C cycles back on the car has gotten hot on the inside to the point I have to roll down the windows depending on outside temps.
Right now I'm thinking of evacuating the whole system and flushing it out and starting over from square one so to speak.

Don't forget you '92 was originally filled with R-12 and that has gotten a bit spendy.
You getting lots of bubbles in the sight glass when the compressor is running?
-
Hmm good idea I havent' checked yet. If need to evacuate the system I can do a 134 conversion on it.

If it has bubbles as I would suspect, it probably won't need anything more than a top off. Then you will need to see if a previous owner has already changed it out to the R134a or not. Check the fill ports and see if they have a quick disconnect type coupling or screw on threads.

It has screw on type R-12 ports. No 134a quick connects. It was topped off with some stuff called Freeze-12 by a family friend of ours that works at NAPA.
