I see them at the events on everyones car and would like to upgrade from the blue painters tape to real numbers. Can someone give me a link or phone number of the preferred vendor?

I got mine here -

You want 8"-10" contrasting numbers and 4" Class letters (if you're going to run SCCA and/or ER events)
I've gotten my last two sets from IZoom Graphics. Great quality, easy to work with.
12" numbers on the Miata:

10" numbers on the RX-8:

If you're a card carrying member of TCB, you can cut magnetic numbers and letters out of AC register covers from Home Depot or Lowes. They're white vinyl sheets with magnetic backing, about 10 X 16 or so. If I recall correcly, <$10 for 2 sheets.
I printed big number stencils using a word processor and my home printer, then traced and cut the sheets. I got 3 numbers out of each sheet, and white contrasts with my car fine. A buddy used acrylic paint on his, and it turned out fine...
Not a spiffy as the ones Altiain linked, but they work, and look much neater than blue tape. I'll see if I can find an image to attach later.
Do you know where that material is generally located at??
Thanks :)
If you are going to run with SCCA, there are minimum sizes for the numbers and letters. Not sure the vent covers are big enough or have enough strength to stay on at high speeds - just sayin
8 Inches on the numbers and 4 on the letters IIRC. I got hit for it in tech a while back cause my blue tape letters wern't big enough.
Make sure they are thick enough too. A 2" brush stroke works out nice.
I first cheaped out and did the register ones and they fell off at mineral wells :(
I have gotten them since then from izoom and they've been really good and quick.
or be dumb like I was and buy 4 of the same number. 11 is 11 no matter what 1 you put in front (doh!)
Thanks everyone, I just ordered from Izoom.
I think they sell kits with 0-9 plus your class letters. But IIRC it's a 100 dollar kit.
I tried to find this register material. Couldn't find it ANYWHERE and the guys working in that area had no idea what I was talking about.
Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. sells magnetic material in various sizes. Including a version that will fit through some printers. I buy it to put tire and sponsor stickers on.
Whatever you do, make sure to get your numbers in a HIGH CONTRAST color. Dark gray on a black car or light silver on a white car is not a good idea, etc. You numbers should be clearly legible from a distance, while moving at speed.
The cheapest magnetic material that will reliablystay on is the material designed to cover household heater vents. Elliots sells it for 5 bucks for three sheets. That is enough for class numbers, letters and other SCCA stickers. It's white so it works on most cars with no additional work.
