Does any one know if there are any Miata performance auto shops in the metroplex? I was looking to do some mods to my NC, but I don't really have the time or the tools to put them on myself.

Gary, and William, at track dog racing are working on NC's now. Of few of us here on the board turn wrenches. What were you planning to get done?
Well, if you want to do a tech day to add a part or two, just post it up here on the forum. I'd be glad to help if I can.
First of all, if you are planning to go forced induction, do *not* add CAI, headers, or exhaust now. All of those will be replaced if you do FI right. Besides that, if you do everything possible while staying normally aspirated (short of installing a V8), you could add it all together and it wouldn't make even a noticable portion of the bump you'll get with FI. In $$/hp, FI is the answer. If you get into the supercharger vs. turbo discussion, just remember that any boost is good boost. :-)
If you want to do *something* now, do suspension now because you'll want that to handle FI later.
As for FI, if you really want to wait until your warranty is out (although I don't really see that arguement), take the time to call and talk to Flyin' Miata, Track Dog, and BEGI. All three are more than willing to chat and inform you of the benefits/drawbacks of various approaches. If you feel the need for a BS filter, bounce their claims off this board. Lots of knowledge/experience here. You may also be able to get in on some items that are almost to market but not quite yet, like the system FM had on their NC at Laguna Seca. Be sure to ask the suppliers about a total solution while you're at it. Just adding one thing may not get you the full benefit of that item (i.e., if you added big brakes to a stock hp car).
Good luck and welcome. Let us know how you proceed.
p.s. I also highly recommend doing the work yourself or at least helping do the work so you can understand the system better and know how to get the most out of it and, if need be, diagnose repairs/updates.
All good info above and I would add that springs and sways are at the very least needed to make an NC handle more like it should. Also, you probably know this already, but Brian Goodwin is a great info/resource/vendor of all things NC.
Thanks alot for the info, guys!
Cwiseheimer, I'll take your word on the CAI not helping much. I had just read some claims from owners on miata.net that headers, CAI and exhaust could add about 30 hp. But then some people said it's more like 15hp. Sounds like FI is the way to go! I had chatted with Brian Goodwin from BEGI and he said the same thing that you did about knowing how to do some of the work.
Nails, good point about the springs/sway bars. The NC is kind of "floaty" on the corners. Which kind do you use? I used Eibachs on my Subaru and my previous car and was extremely happy with them.
One question - do you know if anyone has had Flyin' Miata do a V8 transplant with an NC? I didn't see any info on their website.
Also- have you guys heard anymore about Cosworth? Last I read awhile ago is they were having some problems with the NC engines failing or something like that. Have they resolved those issues?
Sandor is running a Cosworth on his NC. Maybe he'll chime in with his thoughts... I think he likes it. :)
Call FM on Monday re: Cosworth. You are right that there were some problems with engine management early on but I think FM is very close to a full solution (as opposed to band-aids).
As for an NC V8, they haven't done one yet. They have kits for NA's and NB's from V8 Roadsters. Look on the Engine Conversions forum on miata.net. An Aussie recently did one (very well too), but it's a one-off.
Also, Brian Goodwin is http://www.good-win-racing.com/, not BEGI. Corky Bell is Bell Engineering Group Inc. (BEGI). Brian has been around the NC block a time or two.
Actually, word on the pointy board is that FM is using DPTuning in New Braunfells TX for the Cosworth but this isn't officially announced because then you could go straight to DPTuning bypassing the middle man.
A Kiwi recently completed an LS3 install and I believe he's the first NC to do it successfully. Info here and pics here.
Cweisheimer - oops, you're right. Corky Bell is whom I chatted with.
Nails - thanks for the info both the DPTuing and LS3. That LS3 conversion is nice and clean looking! WOW!
Trickyrix - thanks. I'll ask Sandor about it. Yah, I would suppose he likes it! :)
