Definitive Band of Your Generation

I was a child of the 80's. Class of '89.

If I had to pick ONE band that was the most influential of that time I would have to say it was U2. The Joshua Tree was our Darkside of the Moon or White Album.

As far as individual artists I would probably vote Madonna over MJ. Madonna had more hits, created overall more controversy and was more news worthy. Michael was pretty benign during his peak in the 80's. He didn't get weird until years after the Thriller album.

Class of 88, was a total Rush-head (still am), but would have to say that the defining album of my graduating class was GnR "Appetite for Destruction."

Class of '83. I was born in Texas, and live in Texas but spent a number of years including high school, in Okiehomie. Radio up there sucked. We had a choice of classic rock or the other two kinds of music-country and western.

Class of '78 - Zeppelin

Class of '91. Nirvana's Nevermind would have to be the easy one, even though it didn't hit the airwaves until fall of '91.

Class of 69.

Sympathy for the Devil - I used to have a version with about a 5 minute guitar solo. I can't find it anymore, but the shortened versions are still tops.

There's a whole philosophical discussion here, but I won't bore you.

In the mid 70's, we shamed a guy into leaving because he brought his disco albums to a party. He kept begging the host to play them. The host finally said OK and slipped his copy of Disco Duck onto the turntable.

I actually think a lot of times I associate more with music of the late 60s early 70s than I do with the stuff from the early 80s.

It just came to me, The Beatles would not have been The Beatles without The Crickets leading the way.

Class of '88... but if we're talking about Bands of our generation - KISS. Ranging from '73 to still rockin"... My mom, myself, and now my daughter have seen them live! 3 generations strong... and I know everyone knows atleast one or two of there infamous fist pumping chorus lines!

Class of '91 too and as I recall, the mainstream was obsessed with Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer for most of my senior year. I can't deny having owned them both, but would have to say that the Beastie Boys was much more Definitive of the generation for me. Once I left for college, I left rap behind as Seattle grunge took over. Soundgarden/Pearljam/Nirvana ruled and defined the early 90s.

I'm a 92' so Iain and Titus have covered some of it. Metallica, RedHotChili Peppers, The Ramones, Lenny Kravitz.

Going back to mid-school it'd be Depeche Mode, the Cure, ABC, Prince, Violent Femmes, Dead or Alive, etc.

My two favorites were (still are) Pink Floyd and Aerosmith. I have no class.
