Free HPS pads, should I use them or not...

The '99 I bought has warped rotors, but the car came with some new napa rotors and hawk hps pads for me to install. I replaced my '91's warped rotors with napa rotors and hawk hp+ pads and was quite happy with them. I had occasional light noise from them, but nothing that bothered me. The HP+ do dust a lot though.

So my question is, should I install the HPS or try to sell them and get the HP+ or something else all together? How much of a drop down in performance are the HPS pads? The car is driven on the street almost daily and will see MSR maybe 2 times a year?

I put the HPS pads on my S2000 about 3 weeks ago. I have been very happy with them so far for street/autocross use, they are very quite with nice feel. Some on the S2000 boards don't like them, I don't know why.

I think they would be a poor choice for road course use. I would use them for the street then swap out to the HP+ when you go to MSR.

Any issues with swapping different compound pads on the same rotors?

that's how you clean the pad transfer off :D

you will not have any problems going from 1 hawk pad to an other.

I would lightly sand the rotors and Hawk + pads and bed them properly for track days to get the full benefit of the +. But only two track days a year, I think I'd just leave the Hawk Streets on full time. I now change rotors with pads so I don't have to bed them every time.

I'll put the HPS on the car and see how they feel. After driving the '91 with HP+... all I know is that whatever is on the '99 right now just does not get the job done for me. They feel weak even for the street. Forget the track...

hps will feel like hp+ but will fade a lot faster then a the hp+

The HPS don't have the stopping power of the HP+, but they also don't make all the noise, dust, and chew up rotors the way HP+ do.

You are right about them fading a lot faster.

We've had good luck with the Hawk Performance Ceramic as a compromise between the HP+ and HPS. They have more bite than the HPS but without all the dust and squealing. I can't speak for heavy track use but I'm sure they'd be good for the occasional AutoX or HPDE. For an awesome track pad, check out the DTS-30 by Hawk. They make the HP+ feel like HPS. Big difference. Higher temp range and not harsh on the rotors like Hawk Blues will be. I run DTC-30 on the track but they are over kill for the street.

Hawk Performance Ceramic i have on my car, they dust just as bad, it's just blown and not black dust. they start making noise few months after installing. they make noise even after embedding. they are grate but don't buy them thinking you'll get better then hps with none of the dust and noise.
