Miatas...how do they know?

Awhile back I posted about how I had told my :queen: that I liked driving the 91 BRG better than her 99, and so she took it to the store and was rewarded by the slave cylinder going out. Like it knew...

So a couple of weeks ago after dinner, the owner of the restaurant followed us out in the parking lot and wanted to buy the 99, badly. I gave him my cell# and he called me the next day and I said we had plans for it the weekend of the 16th but as soon as we got back I'd give him a call.

So we went down to Fredericksburg and drove several hundred miles visiting a few of the several hundred wineries down there and had a real good time. Got home Sunday night and the next day the CEL decides to come on. How did it know I was thinking about selling it? Downright eerie.

AZ read the codes for me and I've got 2, P0420 and P0500. I just replaced the VSS in May, could the P0500 code still be there from that long ago? As for the 420, I guess the first steps are plugs and wires before working my way up to more expensive things, is that right?

A number of code readers have a button to erase existing codes. Have that done and re-light the engine to see if the code re-appears.

i remember when my 97 was throwing the P0420. i replaced the rear O2 and even after clearing the code, it came back on a day and a half later.... so i pretty much just beat it for about a week and so far it hasent come back on lol.

My 99 used to throw the P0420 very often unless driven soley on the hiway.....Plugs, good wires and the front 02 sensor keeps it off most of the time now......

I was about to have the front bumper and mirrors repainted on my '99...right before it got up close & personal with some cement barricades. Slightly different slant to the same story.

Epilogue:
So I decided not to sell the 99 and instead replace 02 sensor, plugs, wires, even the cat if necessary. And then Presto! before doing any work at all other than an oil change while I had it up on ramps to inspect the exhaust system...CEL is off and has stayed off.

Go figure, it knows I tell ya.
