As mentioned in the autocross off-season prep thread, I am hoping to replace my front subframe soon. The current subframe had a number of pre-existing dents and has trouble getting caster on the RF wheel. Also the right steering rack mount is slightly pushed up.
So here is my question.
The 2001+ cars share the same subframe according to the Mazdaspeed motorsports catalog (NC72-34-800A). But the 99-00 cars have 5 different subframe parts numbers listed: NC10-34-800A through NC10-34-800E. The 99's are mostly B models (and my VIN fits in those listed under the B model). In addition to the VIN number range in each part number entry, there is also a cryptic reference to the next model (the part I underlined):
34-800 NC10-34-800B
CROSS MEMBER
Start Date End Date Notes
01/01/1998 03/01/2000 A (NC10-34-800C) 980101 - 000301
01/01/1998 03/01/2000 NB353*102707-148565
Does this mean that each part supercedes the next, such that I can use any subsequent part (i.e. any other used NB subframe i find at TrackDog or Mazda Heaven)? Or am I stuck hoping to find a B model or shelling out full motorsports price?
I should probably just call Mazda motorsports tomorrow, but I figured I should check this font of...erm...knowledge first.
