Hey all,
Quick question. If I'm using jack stands on the front, do I place them at the same places I would use the jack? I just want to make sure I don't bend that strip under there. My floor jack has a space for it but my jack stands don't.
Thanks!

i typically put the under the frame instead of the jacking point. just make sure you chock wheels and all that good stuff. i still remember when i was a child my dad had our 66 bug on stands during an engine replacement and the car move forward coming off the stands to the floor of the garage. lucky no one was under it, especially me.. i liked to hang out under there..
Ok, cool. That sounds like a good idea. I always chock both back wheels. I have an 8yo that's daddy's helper, gotta make sure everything is safe!
If I'm just going to lift just one end I normally put the jack-stands under the suspension.
Since I worry about the car sliding on the stands if using the jacking points due to the angle of the car. YMMV
Dropped a Corvette on myself in my youth thankfully it just pinned me instead of crushing me like a bug.
Second patf. My front half was been on jack stands supporting the "frame" rails up front since last April. The car has also been on stands in the same spot for over two years a few ago. No damage at all, and the car never budged no matter how hard someone ran into it with a snowmobile or tractor.
I'll only be jacking up the front. I changed the alternator belt last weekend and I need to tighten it a bit. Taking that engine cover off the bottom is bitch when the car is lowered! I used my floor jack last time but I had to do one side at a time and the jack stands will make it a lot faster.
For a job like that I have a set of these! Don't even need to get my jack out! ::Banana::

I have some ramps but they are too steep to get the Miata up them..she drags the front. Are those lower profile?
You're tightening the alternator belt from the bottom?
They are the rhino ramps you can get a WalMart. I've had every car I own up on them.
Our 2002 Miata sits low with its appearance package and Hard S Suspension it just scapes a touch as it goes up the ramps. I got a set of 2"x4" that I use just ahead of the ramp to get the nose up a touch just as it gets to the ramps.

Cool, POS that might work. Hell I have 2" x 4"'s in the garage. How much did a set of those cost?
I wonder if Harbor Freight might have some...i'll look around.
If you have a set of 4 jack stands, it is just as easy to put the car on all 4. Just lift the car up on the side by placing the jack under the mirror.
Last I checked, the Rhino ramps were about $50.
