Leaking top and Trunk!!

After last nights storm, I noticed that there was a puddle of water sitting in my trunk, and my drivers side seat was wet. I just got the car 2 weeks ago, and this was the first time it has really rained. Does anyone know where I could take the car to get the top fixed? It looks like it's coming through the window seals. The rear glass seals very well and was no water around it this morning.

The main thing that is concerning me is the trunk. It had a lot of water in there, any ideas on what would cause a large amount of water to be let in there?

Have you cleaned the drains on the rain rail?

BTW if your tension cable is still busted it will make it easier for water to enter around the window.

+1 on both points. Reach back below the top right behind the seatbelt towers. If the carpet is wet there, the drains are clogged. Pull back the carpet and feel for a drain hole. I use a straightened metal hanger to clear it out... start feeding it down the hole and eventually water will trickle out below the car. Once you see water flowing, you have cleared the drain.

You'd be amazed at the bizarre crap that finds its way into those drain holes... would you believe plastic Mardi Gras beads? ;)

Besides the above ideas, I was able to fix my trunk leak with new weather stripping.

I had a trunk leak that turned out to be my crappy aftermarket antenna -- easily solved by snugging it down on a handmade gasket from an old inner tube.

hmm, my antenna is loose. The whole assembly moves. Thanks man

Welcome to your new miata. I hope that resolves your leaking issue. Be prepared more will pop up, its part of the fun of having a well seasoned convertible.

lol thanks. I cleaned the drains, which turned out to be clean already. Then sprayed water on the back of the top to see if I could get the leak to show it's fangs, and it did. Started dripping into the spare tire. So I'm assuming that means the rain rail. Also I took apart the top about a week ago to get a section re-stitched, and I may have installed in incorrectly. I'll check out either today or Saturday because it looks like rain this weekend.

If your drivers seat was wet, you might want to check the side-window weatherstripping too. The metal strips that hold the rubber is adjustable.

Ok, so I saw what looked to be storm clouds approaching this afternoon. That was when it dawned on me to take another look at my rain rail.

Turns out I didn't install it properly. Live and learn a guess. I got to fix it while being rained and hailed on, since I had no cover to work under :(

And after some adjusting on the door weather stripping, that's fixed too.

Thanks guy for all you help, and no I still haven't ordered my tension cables.

Just went to my car and both my seats are soaked by the doors. My trunk is wet too. And guess what? My hard top is on!!! What gives? Everything looks tight. How can it be leaking? Any tips would be GREAT!!
