Rear brake problems

Last Friday, when I moved my car out of the shop to wash it, I noticed that the driver's side rear caliper was not releasing. I went back into the shop and removed the caliper and noticed that the 14mm plug bolt and 6mm Allen key adjustment bolt were missing from the caliper. I cleaned everything up, put high temp grease on the sliders and all seemed OK. Brakes seemed to work fine. So back to the washing and waxing.

Saturday morning I headed out to a car show, and the driver's side rear caliper was again stuck. After searching on the forum, I replaced the caliper with a Duralast from Auto Zone. When I installed it today I found that it did not have an adjustment screw under the plug bolt. Is this normal for the left side? There is one in the right side.

So far I have not been able to get the left parking brake to work. The right one works fine. Any hints or tricks?

There should be an adjuster on both sides.

Take it back for refund or replacement for right part.

After replacing both of my rear calipers back in December I discovered that the allen key adjustment screws fall out real easy. A couple of times when backing off the piston the adjustment screw came out when I pulled out the allen wrench and I almost didn't even realize it. Anywho, I'd definitely take it back or have them give you an adjustment screw.

In a pinch you can take the screw thingie out of the other side but you should have recieved a screw in both.

Should have both of them. What is it with you and rear calipers? Glad to see you're keeping the grease on those slider pins though. ;)

BTW, the 14mm cover bolt should be snug but no need to torque it down. It's just their to keep the adjuster from falling out. Strange that you lost yours. :confused: I'd hire a new mechanic next time. ::Banana::

:facepalm: gotta watch every word you say.around here...

I got another rebuilt caliper from Auto Zone. This one has the adjuster gear. All the little parts were in a plastic bag, unlike the first one. I'm thinking that the first one had already been returned at least once.

Anyway, my car is back together and the service brakes and the parking brake seem to be working normally.
