I don't care how common this probably is out here

but it's only the second time I've seen it, and it still cracks me up:

For those with bad eyes or small monitors, it is the UPS guy in a golf cart towing a trailer to deliver packages. And yes, it is a legit UPS guy, not someone in our community here that distributes the packages after UPS drops them off at some office. The best part is that they also now deliver everything a good 3-4 hours earlier than they did just a week ago with the normal trucks.

A coworker in Florida says they started doing it out there last year (apparently it started in south FL in 2009), but it still makes him laugh every time he sees it. I don't see it ever getting old.

I would think rain would be a problem but I guess not.

I'll have to see how they handle that. From what I saw looking it up real quick, it seems like it's a holiday-time only thing they are doing in warmer climates. I guess DFW is still considered a warmer climate around Christmas? The stated idea is so they can deliver all the packages earlier in the day than usual (which they most certainly are), and a side benefit is the fuel savings. To me, the biggest benefit is that so far it has made me laugh for a good few minutes regardless of what has been going on. I want to order more stuff just so I can go out and talk to the guy.

I work for FedEx but I've seen this before. FedEx does something similar in high rise buildings in dense population areas like NYC. We call them foot couriers. They get dropped off in an area with all their packages and deliver to that area. UPS does this during the holidays. That employee is probably seasonal help. He is lucky because I've heard most of the time they have a locked shed on a corner in the neighborhood and deliver by hand truck. They have a set time to get it done if they want a ride back to the station. lol

Had I known it was a viable option, I'd have volunteered to be that seasonal help guy. I'd love to roll around the neighborhood in a golf cart all day.

I've seen the NYC stuff when I lived in the area, so that's nothing new to me. The golf cart thing, 100% newness. And awesome. And yeah, the hand truck thing would suck..good thing we live in a "nice" community.
