This coming week I am doing the initial rebuild of my engine. I am completely tearing the engine down and putting new bearings/rings/gaskets and I am wanting to do some head work while it is off. What do you guys suggest I do to my 96 head while it is at the machine shop? I wish I could put a 99 on, but then I would just turn around and spend the money to have it re-worked so figured I would just have work done to the 96.
Should just bore it out to a 2.0L, put in bigger pistons and better rods! LoL JK....Would be cool though. I do not know the answer to your question. I'm sure someone here does though.
Your options are to spend money to get the NA head to 99 flow quality or start with the good head from the get-go with the slightly more desirable lifters and straighter runners.
If the car is going to stay naturally aspirated, then leave the stock vales in. If FI and you plan to track the car for a long time without working on it, you want SS and/or inco valves and stiffer single springs.
I may boost later down the road, but around 7psi, where can i get said valves/springs?
