I was watching NASCAR last Sunday, pre-race they showed Jeff Gordon with his children. They all had pink headset type ear protection with "KIDS ..." written on it.
So you think he'll let me borrow a pair?
And do they filter out the sound of turning both left and right, or only left?
several available on amazon for ~$20... need to get a set myself for my 4 yo. gonna have to get the pink for her to keep them on, maybe add some stickers.. damn disney
While we're at it...what about for adults? I have a feeling the cheap $1 orange throw-aways won't cut it. And I'm not wearing my over-the-head shooting ear protection. Anything in between?
There are some pretty good throw-away hearing protectors out there. Look at the NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) on the package. I would not personally use anything with less than a 30 dB NRR. We have some orange corded ones here at work that are 33 dB that work quite well.Quote:

Also, keep in mind that using multiple hearing protectors gives you an additive effect. When I have to spend long periods of time in a high noise enviroment (testing a machine powertrain, for example), I wear my custom plugs, plus a set of ear muffs that clip on to my hard hat. This works better than either the muffs or ear plugs separately.
The most important thing in ear plug effectiveness is making sure you install them properly. If you don't put them in right, they won't work properly.

His b-day is the day after the race. It's absolutely a b-day gift for him. I don't even like cars or racing... :)
I bought these for my son (when he was 5-6) and they work fantastic for the shooting range.
