I'm going to be properly depowering my steering rack (right now its just drained of fluid and looped) in the next few weeks which means disassembling the rack, removing seals, etc. While I have it apart, I'd like to get the pinion shaft welded up to get rid of the play. Anyone one know of a reputable welder who would take a small job like this without charging $$$?

If you find a place, please let me know. I asked Mr Brg about this a few months ago (since he mentioned he had a few cores for this very purpose), but he never responded to me. I'm fairly close to FM, so it would actually work out rather perfectly.
We've done a few for other Miata owners at Vorshlag. We're jammed up with service work and in-shop fabrication, but we can squeeze in simple things like this pretty easy.
The M-F only thing kills it for me though. I only usually go to Plano on the weekends, and usually only about once a month, if that. Still might be an option for me, as I can stand to leave the car down for a month+ if it comes to it. Once I put this trans in my wife's car I'll consider the Vorshlag route a bit more - I do have a month off school and still no job, so could possibly make that drive twice before mid-January. Thanks, modernbeat (and rmonheim for reminding me about this).
