Looks like BFG has an RS3 destroyer. From the testing at NOLA yesterday this appears to be the hot new street tire.
Price is competitive to the RS3 with the 225/45/15 size.

Competition is a good thing. We'll have to see how it does when air temp is >100 degrees.
More stuff on it - http://www.onehotlap.com/2013/01/bfg...-thickens.html
Also no 14" size available..... :-(
The Rival's tread depth is only 7/32 (note that SCCA requires tread depth >7/32 on new tires for them to be legal). The Direzza ZII's tread depth is 9/32 for the larger tires and 8/32 for the smaller ones! It would be interesting to find out how the times would compare with the same tread depth.
$244 more than RS3s per set in 255/40-17. :(
Too expensive for what it is.
Not for those who require 140+ treadwear tires for competition purposes...
$24 more than a set of RS3 in 225/45/15. Outrun and outlast the RS3, yet its too expensive for what it is?
I think this tire crosses the line of a “street tire” and needs to go straight to the exclusion list because of its lack of tread. No TW spec yet.
I need to cancel my order for the ZII and just run my old RS3’s till they come out in April or May for my sizes.
edit
The picture on Tire Rack site shown 200TW on the tire.
Dang these are cheap in 285/35/20, just about 300 bucks cheaper than anything else decent.
I will stick with my Dunlop ZII for the early months and switch to either the BFG, Hankook, or who knows in May or June.
Nice first-impression, but it means nothing to me until they are used in an autox-setting. Unless they are 0.5 sec faster on a 60 sec course, I have to consider issues like heat tolerance, durability (#of heat cycles), min operating temp and price before I jump in. The only reason I'm considering the ZII's is that they are an evolution of an established winner in the Z1.
For Nats, they might be "the" tire to have to trophy, but I'll stick with a known quantity until someone actually autocrosses one. I have yet to see a tire that didn't compromise in one area to improve in another. Good luck to the early adopters!
Interestingly, they are $40 more in 255/40-17 than in 245/40-17. Under $150/tire in 225/50-16, which would fit my FD wheels...
contemplating...
I just noticed that some of them have 3 racial grooves and some have 2 and much larger tread blocks. The one they tested had 2.
Hmmmm;)
would you also try to run a foot race in deep sea diver boots?
try putting down and stepping away from the heaping helping of ZOMG ...
