Looking for some local people that I can bug and learn from. I don't wanna post a bunch of already asked questions lol
Do a search n00b! ::Bleh::
Questions are fine as long as you tell us where you are and give us details about your car. We are a pretty easy going bunch. Except for OZMDD. He's a bit of an a-hole! ::Pop::
Carrollton here
I watched you eat your lunch today... you missed a piece. ::Assassin
Carrollton here as well, ask away if we dont know the answer, we will normally make some Sh*T up
If anyone ever replies with NMC, ask what they would do if it was their car. ;)
Lol! If that's the case then. I have a few for now..
Who would y'all recommend for body work? Hoping to find quick turn around and quality.
I have a whine in 5th gear. I googled it and it seemed no one figured it out.
Also I have I guess what is called pinging? I have a rattle-ish noise between 2-3k
When it's under load. I put new NGk plugs/wires on about 3k miles ago and just put in a new coil pack last night. I wanna say that it helped and it only does it now after running a while. I also googled and found this

I guess I can try cleaning my plugs, colder plugs, or higher octane gas. Before I mess with the timing. Never messed with that before. I have a '99 with 176,550k.
I appreciate anything y'all can help me out with :)
^You can't adjust the timing on a '99.
Remember...there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. (Do a search first)
Have you checked the oil in the transmission? It might be low... or the tranny could just be worn out. Have you SeaFoamed the engine yet? That seems to be a fairly popular and productive thing to do around here.
Watch the Impromptu Events section for the Wed Nite get together. I'm sure you'll get plenty of theories (some might even be helpful).
The Human Torch was denied a bank loan.
Denton here
Speedometer cable for the whine?
For pinging you could try higher octane gas since you can't adjust the timing. My first thought was that the timing was advanced. I'm not versed in 99' and up.
Get Keith Turrner's Miata Performance Projects book. It will keep you busy for a couple of years.
Also in Carrollton, but I'm probably just as clueless as you.
I meant advance the timing. My bad :/
Ill be sure to check the tramission fluid.
On that note what kind of gear oil and motor oil would y'all recommend? It's my daily driver.
I use, and really like, Pennzoil Synchromesh in the transmission. A lot of folks use Mobil 1 in the engine. I use Shell Rotella T6 in my engine.
Is that synthetic or conventional? I just wanna know I'm doing my mx5 right :)
Im currently using valvoline max life 10w30 and royal purple 75w 90
The range of motor oils that people use and swear by in Miatas is really bewildering. I guess it's nice to know that the car tolerates a wide variety! Mobil 1 0w40's been treating the new adoptee pretty good so far.
I'm in the colony. Don't know too much about miatas specifically but always willing to try and learn. Mechanical engineer by trade so I would like to think I have some automotive common sense. I use full synthetic shell rotella t6 http://mobile.walmart.com/m/phoenix;...1-Gal/14958681
I used Mobil 1 5w-30 on my 04 STi and it seemed to do the trick. Just decided to switch it up for the miata.
As for gear (transmission and rear diff) I used redline for my transmission and rear diff as recommended by TDR (track dog racing in garland). Don't remember if I used mt-90 or mtl or what not but I can look it up if you're curious.
Will be moving soon from Austin ranch to a house I bought just north of n colony blvd and main st intersection. House down the street from me actually has 3 miatas in the driveway normally.
The Arsonist had oddly shaped feet.
