Power Loss and Surging
I have noticed when my 97 miata warms up after about a 30 min drive it just losses power and surges for a couple of seconds then it stops and a short time later it repeats over and over. When i let it cool down for a couple of min it seems to run fine. I think it might be the Cam Angle Sensor does anyone know where i can get one relatively cheap or if someone happens to have a spare one ;) I only have about $100 to spare at the moment. I have called a couple of junkyards selling the part for $80 but they are sold out.

I am having a similar problem with my 2001 NB. I paid for an oil change, changed the air filter, and drove to Tulsa, but only made it 2.5 hours. The RPMs started surging and stalling rhythmically, no power, engine running rough. No CEL. After 2 hours of rest and a disconnected battery, started up and drove it to Tulsa. Rested a week. Drove back to Dallas and it broke down on me again in the same way as I hit Dallas. Does this sound similar to your issue? Did the CAS fix it ?

Your car has a different type of CAS. It could be CAS, Coils, Crank Sensor. You might see if there are some stored codes even if you don't have a CEL.
