So I decided to swap out my 90 rear end for a torsen. Well... It wont come loose. What am I missing? :confused:
I'm dropping the whole rear end out, the picture shows the point that it pivots but wont slide out.

On the diff swaps I've helped with, we've pulled the PPF off at the transmission and dropped the whole diff/PPF assembly. There are a couple of PPF-to-diff bolts that are a complete bitch to undo in the car.
I've done it a few times and just did mine last week by myself. And have always just pulled the axles and driveshaft and leaned the diff out of the top of the ppf and it just fell out

Everyone in this thread forgot about the two spline nuts that are at the top of the ppf. Thread the ppf bolts in place by just a few threads and tap the bolts upwards until the spline nuts come free. Once they are removed, the ppf will slide off of the diff.
Ahh! So there is a couple at the top too? I pulled the one from the bottom rear bolt, that's what I was hung up on before.Quote:

Took off PPF and everything came down :D Thanks for the tips everyone.
So figured while i was at it I might as well change the diff fluid since who knows where this rear end has been ;) .
What should it looks like? Drained the old one it was very dark dark and smelled like oil, drained the new one and it was clear with a blue-ish tint and smelled like silicone kinda used the same container for draining and the 2 did not mix... Thoughts?
Well different brands are going to probably have different tints to them, but the gear oil we use at work is a dark yellow tinted clear when it goes in, almost like regular motor oil. It's usually black and atrociously smelly when it comes out :x
It sounds like the new diff already had new oil in it.
