Hardtop TRADE(ish)

I have two 1990 tops:

The first option:

Is a 1990 hardtop in very good condition but with terrible paint. I'd be happy to trade it for a later model with headliner and defrost, in very good condition, preferably in black.

Why would you do that?

Well, two reasons:

1- Some folks want a top with no defrost. I get that from a purists perspective. It does, indeed, look a bit cleaner.
2- I'll paint the top whatever color anyone chooses. That could be nice for someone who has an odd color and needs a nice top.

The second option:

I have another 1990(ish... early) top that isn't in perfect condition (repairs have been made). It is purely plasti-dipped and is wearing a lexan rear window. Why would you want this one? Well, the textured plasti-dip looks great on every car, in every color. It's quite amazing in that regard. But, if you're an autocrosser, you'll discover this top is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than an OEM glass-window top. And you can vent it with Project G vents (or whatever you like). And I'll make up some difference in price on this one.

Here's a pic of the lexan rear window/plastidipped hardtop (not a great one) installed. I didn't include pics of the '90 HT because it is ugly and will look like a hartop in your desired color with fresh paint). Local Miataphiles only, please.

So is the lexan window hard top for sale? Or is a trade the only option?

Not sure yet. I'd much rather do a trade so I could ensure I secured a top for the new car. I'd be looking at around $800 for the lexan/plasti-dipped top if I decide to sell.

Autocrossers don't run with the top on, so top weight is not really an issue.

I thought some of the events/classes have a mandatory HT or top down rule. I'm not an auto crosser (yet). Project G makes the windows/vents for this purpose and the Lexan is purely for weight savings in those instances. With that said, the lexan is only there on my top as a cheaper alternative to replacement glass. However I'm always shocked at the weight difference when I handle it. It is very easy to get on and off by yourself; much easier than a glass equipped hard top. So if you have the top on and off often, the lexan top would be a good option.

I'm a little surprised no one is jumping on this. Maybe I worked it wrong...

A defroster in exchange for a freshly painted top.

Or, a lightweight top plus cash for an OEM top with defroster.

Yeah, it sounded like you were setting-up a "something-for-nothing" deal in the first post. Who is doing the painting for the hardtop? Got pics of the glass-window top?

I can post pics of the glass top. It is nearly perfect; there is a thin scratch in the top where the headliner would go. A rattle can of satin black and you would never know. The paint was red but baked off; it I s mostly just the primer now.

There is a pro down the street who can shoot it. I don't think a mega paint job is required but I will put good quality paint on it. Heck, I could get quarts or gallons of the autotouchup paint and do a perfect match at home; I have guns and such, I just don't use them much anymore.

If I don't get anyone interested I'll just keep it for the boy. I was just trying to get him a top that was model correct for his car.

This has that déjÃ* vu all over again feel to it.
