Dirty Wheels? Bubble Gum Farts to the rescue...

The ST is a brake dust factory. I have been washing the wheels seemingly every couple days for the last year and a half trying to keep them clean. Some of the ST forum guys were swearing by the Adam's Wheel cleaner, but at $18 plus shipping for a 16 oz. bottle I was a bit skeptical. I 'treated' myself to a bottle right after Christmas. Before today, the last time I washed my car was Jan. 12 *twitch* between work, freezes, and being sick I hadn't been able to. My wheels looked matte black. Sprayed this stuff on them, let it sit, agitated it a bit with a microfiber rag, and rinsed..... wheels were spotless and I'm a believer. There is one downside (other than the price) It smells like a bubble gum fart once it starts working..... even my wife agrees.

I used probably about 1/5 of the bottle on the 4 wheels. When this bottle runs out I think I'll bend over and order the $80 gallon sized container.......

How much did you have to agitate? I'm still looking for a wheel cleaner that you can spray on, let it sit and rinse all the dust off, no luck so far.

Anything decent you can get local? I've noticed the brakes on the Mini dust like freaking crazy, they look like crap after 2 days so i'm going to have to finally break down and buy some cleaner.

Timely topic! I have some NASTY brake dust on the NC that will not come off with with standard cleaners. While that Adam's stuff sounds tempting, I have a feeling it won't do the trick either. I'm thinking I will need fine steel wool and copious amounts of brake cleaner to get the job done--unless someone has a better elixir for the really stubborn brake dust.

I've had some luck with Goof Off but be careful with it.

Simple Green is pretty cheap and works well for other metal parts, but I've never tried it on wheels. You might think it smells like Xmas tree farts, though.

I normally use simple green. this is so much better, simple green looks like dove soap....
I did try one wheel with no agitation. I was able to get the face of the wheel 90%+ clean with just a spray of the adams, about a 2 minute wait and a blast from the hose. However, I like the inside of the wheels to be clean too, and there wasn't a way to get a strong enough stream in there to knock the goop loose. Miataspeedracer, swing by my house sometime and we can shoot some on a wheel and see if it works. Its an enzyme, so I don't think the brake particulate being baked on will stop it....

How about a group buy for a gallon? I used up half bottle of simple green with a car wash brush and a lot of elbow grease to just wipe off like 30% of crap off the wheels :(

I'm in. used it again this past week. This stuff spoils me.... lol
