OK so what is the secret for getting the licence plate light assembly out of the trunk lid without breaking them?? I can get them to slide over but they sure don't seem to want to come off the car.....

WD40! The tab is very brittle by this time on your car. You can get it out by spraying liberal amount of WD40 and gently pull it out. Just in case you break one, I have a spare somewhere. I have destroyed more than couple of these buggers!

It was super painful to get them out on mine. I had to use a very small screw driver to press the tab from the front even after it was halfway out and then once it's halfway sticking out, use the force.
I washed mine with soap, simple green and tooth brush while they were out and now wife says the brightest thing on your Miata is your license plate bulbs lol
