Black stuff seeping thru the top

Has anyone experienced the black, tarry top adhesive seeping thru your canvas.

Mom's Gallaxy Gray has the tan top and interior and it looks baaaad.

What, if anything, will take it off without ruining the top?

It happens to all the early tan canvas tops, and there is nothing that can be done. Try the dealer for warranty consideration if she is original owner, but dont expect much.
