I think both will be illegal next season, but I think we can all agree that it will not be an issue locally. At least I don't have a problem.
Toyo heats up quicker and favors precision driving. However, you have to water it a lot. I only get about 60 runs on them before they cycle out.
225 Hankook take time to heat up and suck until they do. They like sloppy driving. Mucho stick when hot. I get about 150-200 runs out of them.
195 Hankooks seem to be the way to go -- cheaper and better reaction on the 7.5 rim.
Toyos do not like the Bus Lot.
All of this will change next spring when new tires come out from several makers.
Shave your Toyos since you'll only get 60 runs anyway. At least you will avoid tread-squirm to make the most of their short lives.
How will the RS3 be illegal? They are all labelled 200TW at this point. Am I missing an update or announcement?
BTW Sam, I have 2 nearly-new (1 event) RS3's in 195 if you want to get a TCB set by only buying two more.
Thanks guys.
You have a PM, Mike.
PS - Was the Civic running these yesterday? Federal 595RS-R
I don't knwo who was running Federals yesterday, but I've seen Whitener and Armstrong on them. Seem like a great tire for the price, but not quite in the top-tier of autox tires. They are 140TW though, IIRC.
RS-3's in the 15" variety (225/45/15) are no longer available per tire rack and discontinued. wondering if there are more changes coming in the line..
I am hearing that there are a whole bunch of new/updated tires coming for next year. Several sizes of the V1 RS3 also were listed as discontinued as they approached the release of the V2. Seems like Hankook may be planning another update or an RS-4?
From nats on 200 TWR tires for 2015 and the boys with clipboards that were everywhere: BFG new compound on Rival, Stones competition companion to RE11: Kuhmo new tire; Toyo new tire; maybe a federal that is what Grant had on front Sunday.
That being said from when we kept a set of kooks for bus lot i think section width is their advantage. We certainly get more than 60 runs on shaved yoyos and don't see them getting slower as they cycle. They seem to stay quick to bald. Bob was 8th at Nats on a set that started at 4/32 and were well past 60 runs. Tires we ran Sunday were beyond 80 runs. That being said the damn near bald ones do not work as well on sites that gravel up like MW & LSP because i think you need some void area.
we will certainly have to look at some test days post SEMA assuming the brands announce there. Working on Bstone to do something at MW. Sure David is trying to put something togethef.

Agree. Ive been on shaved toyos in the back virtually the entire season. Well over 100 runs and still feel the same as new. They aren't driven wheels of course, but I'm sure gonna miss them now that I've finally run the magic toyo on a car that likes them. And my glorious Yoko's up front too. Sigh...
