How do I ditch an aftermarket alarm?

The previous owner of my car installed a Clifford alarm. I've never been a huge fan of it, but today it crossed the line. My key fob died this morning. No biggie right? Wrong. I went and got a new battery. Opened the fob up and discovered the battery carrier has seperated from the circuit board. I tried holding against the circuit board to no avail. No worries, I've got a second fob. Wrong. That battery was dead and needed a different battery. Went back to the store and got a new battery for it. It won't disarm the alarm. It's not paired up with the system any more I guess? It does nothing.

So where I am now is that the alarm is activated and I can't start the car until it is deactivated. How am I supposed to do that with two remotes that can't talk to the system. I'm ready to pull the damn thing out, but I haven't a clue how to do that. I don't even know which model it is, but it must be from the late '90s or early '00s. Does anyone know anything about alarms? How do I remove it so that I can start my car... I was supposed to go to the toy run this weekend, but I can't even start the car...

I'm thinking your going to have to figure out what you have first. Your going to need a wiring diagram so you can pull it and get the car to start again. Plus maybe you can figure out how to disarm it if you had more information available.

Had this issue on my OTM and climbing under the dash with a flashlight to find the "black box" and then using the google I was able to figure out the issue. (Broken wire)

I pulled an alarm out of my first Miata ('92). After I cleaned out around 5lbs. of wire (there's an old picture floating around somewhere), the car wouldn't start. I ended up having to install a 'temporary' switch (in a hidden place) that had to be pushed while turning the key.

Yea don't forget wires were cut and spliced to add the alarm.

go on CL and find someone who installs alarms and stereos, pay them a reasonable fee to come remove it correctly. Well worth the $25-$50 they will probably charge, and you can offer to let them have the alarm too, if they want it. Make sure you specify that you want the wires removed back to the oem wiring and then seal the splices or cuts correctly.

Find the Alarm's black box....

Fix the fob.
or
Open car.
Disconnect battery.
Cut the ground to the alarm.
Cut and connect the green and green/white wires together.

Find a Clifford dealer and have them get you a remote that will work. If you can get the number off the brain you can probably google a new key fob part number.

Won't that cause an explosion?

I've removed a number of aftermarket alarms from used cars which I've bought. They were all similar in the fact that the only wire which was spliced was one of the wires coming off the ignition switch. So basically, you remove everything connecting to the alarm controller, and then re-connect the two ends of the ignition wire which were spliced into the alarm.

With better alarms, both of those actions would trigger an alarm if not disabled prior. One sure way to find out though.

I guess the alarm and or the fob reset itself while I was at work. IT'S ALIVE!

I'd take it as a warning to uninstall the damn thing.

Yes, I will try to get that sucker out of there.

I took my car to an auto alarm store in Grapevine and let them uninstall the damn thing. They charged me $35.
