Our old tried and true Kenwood KR-V8060 receiver has decided to only play the center channel when it feels the need.
I just finished checking and rechecking stuff to see if it was just a external wiring issue and it is not.... I think the old girl is wanting to retire.
I have a 5.1 speaker setup now so I guess I need a new 5.1 receiver.
Looking online I see a lot of cool new features like FM!
What do you kids recommend? (Don't forget I am cheap) ;)
Buy my Onkyo 7.1 with the JBL northridge center and surrounds.

What newfangled options and old school connections do you need?
They word of the day is HDMI. Pretty much any source you connecting to your receiver will have an HDMI port. Forget S-Video, forget Optical, forget all that other crap. You can't be too rich, too skinny, or have too many HDMI ports. My receiver is only a few years old, and has 3 of them, which I've maxed out between my DVR, PS3, and Chromecast.

Here's a nice Onkyo for two fiddy. Whatever you do, buy your HDMI (or whatever) cables from monoprice.com.....no need to overspend on them.

Yep, testing shows that all HDMI cables are essentially the same at the data rates you'll be using, and higher. The $6 ones from Frys are fine. I bought a pair from SAMs for $15 that were 9' instead of 6', making it easier to run them into the wall.
I got a basic Onkyo 5.1 refurb from http://www.accessories4less.com/ for just over 100 bucks, HDMI and all that, haven't had any problems with it. A friend had good luck with his refurb Onkyo7.1 from the same place.
They are refurb so YMMV but just throwing that out there, prices are TCB approved.
I think I still have one that you can have. It's a Harmon kardon no clue on the inputs but its just collecting dust in the office.
My Atari 2600 doesn't have an HDMI port. How do I hook it up?
Fan of the Onkyo receivers. I prefer to go with models that have network capabilities for the firmware updates.
Had good luck with Onkyo as well. Like the 'audessey' feature that i have on mine. only thing i would like to have now is bluetooth, but that is easily added.
