Bad idea to sell Racing Harts?

So after driving around on 15's for autocross (and occasionally daily when I feel too lazy to swap back) I've come to really dislike the stock MSM 17" Racing harts. Part of it is the crappy tires that are on them currently, but they're also really curb-rashed from the previous owner. If I didn't have the stock wheels, do you think there would be a noticeable difference in resale price? I'd prefer not to sell the car, but who knows what could happen, and I don't wanna miss out just because of those wheels.

Those wheels are the only thing a MSM has going for it! ;-)

I would consider it a plus to not have those boat anchors.

They are heavy and tall. If it were me, I would not run them if I had a viable alternative, particularly if you can get good value from them. Of course, they probably do have some value if you puth the car back to stock at some point for resale.

Those wheels won't bring much money on the used market IMHO, especially if they are chewed up. Find some used 15's for daily drivers and put the Hart's in the garage for when you do sell.

I think it would depends on the buyer. All things being equal, I would opt for the MSM with a nice set of 15" wheels like 6ULs or RPF1s over one with the stock 17" wheels. I'd be willing to bet most "performance minded" enthusiasts would agree with me but you also have those odd folks that think a stock Miata will be more valuable one day in the far future. ::Pop::Maybe they're right but I didn't buy a Miata as an investment. Unless the car manufacturer ends in "i" it likely will never be a great investment.

Aftermarket parts bring $0 on trade-in and depending on dealer can be a negative. If you plan to sell outright via autotrader or other non-enthusiast site, stock is better as buyers may think "raced" and equate that with abused (in their minds). Curb rash is easily and fixed and not very expensive. I'd opt to repair them for DD use and resale.

Yeah, I think I'll probably just keep them. Does anyone know of any good wheel repair places?

Most dealers and tire shops that don't do it themselves use Wheels of America in Dallas.

Hmm, did a little searching around and it seems like it would cost just as much to repair the Racing Harts as it would to just buy some new wheels. Maybe I'll get some TR C1Ms with new tires and call it done.

I'll look in my stack of business cards. I had some rash repaired BMW wheels for $40 wheel iirc. It was a guy that does work for the leasing company I was buying the car from (I got the dealer pricing, but still...).

I gave up. Didn't even find the dealer I bought the car from (several cars ago). I'd suggest just calling random lease car resellers and ask who they use/suggest.

edit: specifically dealers that specialize in premium cars.

i'd love to pick up a set of 17s cheap for my NA only so I can run Michelin Pilot Super Sports on it. Other than that...meh
