Why remove the VC at all?
Are you talking about the plug that replaces the NA-style CAS?
Not sure about the "Best" method but the "Easiest" method is to call Rogue.

I guess its tighter in there than I remember. I've never swapped one on a vvt motor in the car, as I've not had one that was leaking. I do reseal them whenever I'm doing a VC gasket, but everything is apart anyway at that point. Shouldn't be a big deal for you.
