As many of you know it's a common problem for the 3rd brake light wires to break in the corner of the trunk. Well, make sure you check to see if yours if working before going to get an inspection.
Texas now requires the 3rd brake to light up to pass inspection. I imagine many people will be caught off guard due to this change in the law.
Been there, done that. At last month's inspection my 3rd brake light was not working. After the heated discussion about which tech would drive my Miata for the road test, they replaced the bad bulb for free. Luckily, the problem was not the common broken wire.
Yep all 86 and newer need to have 3 Stop Lamps.

After chasing evap codes on a Jeep Wrangler and getting that sorted out, it failed for the third brake light. I thought it was crap, until I got home and looked it up. The Jeep was rear ended years ago and that's when it stoppped working. Now I have two weeks to figure it out. Not cool Texas.
My miata failed too, but luckily it was just the bulb, so that was taken care of.Quote:

Its a '12, but I was hoping someone may have experience with a vehicle that does not have a 3rd brake light, rather than simply a non-functioning one.

You will need one. They sell extensions pretty cheap. My neighbor just did one on his JK. Or you can go blingin' cool and get the fancy lights that go inside the wheel of the spare tire and light up.Quote:
