Drunk Driver Killed by Beer Truck

Possible local Darwin Award Nominee!

FORT WORTH, Texas - Investigators said a North Texas woman killed in a bizarre accident in January was legally drunk at the time. Mary Cay DeVlaming was crushed between two vehicles involved in an accident on University Drive in Fort Worth. DeVlaming was inspecting the damage to her car when a beer distributor's truck hit the cars from behind, pinning the woman.
The beer truck driver was indicted on intoxication manslaughter charges and the Devlaming family is suing Miller Distributing. The company's attorney is fighting back, saying the woman's intoxication impaired her judgment and contributed to her death.

The guy from miller was over 4X the legal limit. It was a very big discussion at the restaurant. He was served at a nearby competitor. They are now facing a very big problem also. Even though he was not driving a miller truck at the time, he was let go from his job as well.

Not surprising. He is considered a "professional" driver. FedEx holds it's drivers to very high standards as well.

They must report any traffic infraction in a personal vehicle (except parking tickets) with in 24 hours.

Certain infractions are considered serious enough for instant termination.

Exceeding 65mph in a company vehicle.
Exceeding 15mph over in a company vehicle.
School Zone infractions
Any accident that results in a fatality.
Any DUI

When you take a job driving for a living you are held to higher standards than any other driver. Beyond that, you are governed by DOT which has it's own specialized rules.

Loaded up you'd be lucky to hit 65mph! They are supposed to be governed but I've accidently discovered that at least one of them isn't. :twisted:

Driving 65 or even 55 on the freeway works because FedEx trucks are bigger than Hummers. Not to many people want to play chicken with a 12 ton+ truck. Of course most of the driving is done on surface streets where the 65mph limit isn't an issue.
