Well, I had thought I was having an electical issue with my idle, it turned out to be crank walk.... .22". So I am pulling the engine. Dont know whose fault it is, mine or the manufacturer of the shortblock.
What could wear thrust bearings out in 400 miles?

Almost a quarter inch of play in 400 miles sounds pretty suspicious to me. The maximum allowable endplay in the Factory TSB is 0.3mm, which is about 1/85th of an inch. I think I'd be looking to whomever you bought the shortblock from for a new engine, as it sounds like they sold you a lemon.
I agree with Altiain you got a lemon, allowable is 0.01181" and you measured .22" dang near a 1/4 of an inch of play! All of this in less than 400 miles! :rambo:
Did you get a warranty with this motor??
How much disassembly do we have to do to remove the motor again?
It will be the same amount as last time.... yes, I have a warranty. I just need to make sure that it was faulty manufacturing...
