Top latch issue

I post this at Miata.net thought you guys might have some input. This isnt your typical wont stay locked problem. When I open the pass side latch for the top, it sticks. Right as the handle is pointed straight down, and the actual latch is going to pop out and down. It just seems to bind. I can force it to open, but it doesn't feel right. Is there anything I can check to fix this? I have tried to search but sticky latch and stuck latch usually gets posts about the hood latch.

Is the latch just gunked up with something, or is it mechanically binding?

I looked and there doesnt seem to be anything in there. Ill double check. It sure does feel like a mechanical bind.
