#2 demonstrates why I don't mountain bike. That dude'll be lucky to have all his teeth after he lands.

The secret to mountain biking is the same as the secret to skateboarding, skiing, rollerblading, etc. - you're going to fall hard sooner or later, so learn how to fall properly early on. It is a skill that will not go unused. :punchout:

'Fraid so. And we all know what happens next. Seeing his poor feet sticking out there is just sickening. I read an interview with him not too long ago. He's an amazing guy. He obviously regrets what happened, but there's no self-pity; just a desire to move forward.

If I remember correctly, the guy in the picture kept his legs... Zanardi's were torn off and already gone by the time the meds got to him.

That is Stan Fox in 92. His feet were actually ok except for bruises. IIRC he had a concussion. He went on to race again, but was killed in a street car accident when he was hit by a drunk driver in Australia.

The other secret is- the slower you go the faster things happen.
